After a long silence from our blog, we shall be revamping it soon enough. As long as we can squeeze time from our oh-so-very busy schedules, i'm sure it will be updated soon enough. :)

I'm sure you all would have heard about Ilsa's upcoming production this coming October! Details are below:

Anyways, we had our regular practice yesterday and for some it was the first time they made their way to PA for practice and for the rest of us it felt good to be back. :D Did techniques and I swear that my bones and muscles will be sore tomorrow. But whatever it is, the steps were refreshing because its been so long since it has been used that it seems all new to us again.

Well, just a short entry for now. Do enjoy the clip of our practice tomorrow and do come back for future updates on the production!

It is less than a week before the start of exams and everyone are in jitters!

The ilsa dancers have been mugging either secretly (or non at all) and openly in school, starbuck chains around Singapore as well as at home. :) We all cannot wait to finish the exams and start dancing already! :(

Kudos to the Teater Tari Era dancers on a great performance in front of world leaders last weekend! :) Superb! Although we were only able to see snippets of it, but with the calibre of the dancers I'm sure all went well! :)

So as of now, although I have not been blogging and updating much of this blog.. No worries, come 1st December it shall be updated enough for all to read and share. <3

Ilsa wants to wish all Muslims SELAMAT HARI RAYA MAAF ZAHIR BATIN!

it has been an exciting and tiring eid for the dancers as we have been busy for the practices for the Dance Reflections 2009 - Body Language that was stage on 25th September 2009! 2 weeks has flown by and it's back to mugging and writing of essays and whatever a school education encompasses.

We would like to share our gratitude to the seniors who have come down for every practice and who have performed with us for the last DR!! In terms of seniority: Kak Shaheeda, Kak Indah, Kak Zuraini, Kak Irda and Kak Shifa! Thanks for your support for Ilsa all this while! WE LOVE YOU! :))

And of course thanks to all the dancers from the 5 other dance groups for sharing the stage with us! :) Much love from Ilsa!

Ilsa Tari goes CYCLING!

Ilsa dancers have been busy with practices for the upcoming Dance Reflections - Body Language.

Thus, we decided that we had to have a break from all the dance practices! Thus, the idea of going cycling came into mind. Mind you, this is NO leisure cycling okay. Although most of the dancers have not cycled since eons ago, and we can barely remember how to cycle, we decided to cycle from Changi through Pasir Ris, Tampines, Bedok to East Coast Park and back to Changi in 1 Day.

If only you could be there and see how our tired faces look like and how much complaining was going on throughout the 5hrs cycling trip (which of course was filled with taking pictures, resting, playing the swing, having a break at Bedok Corner, resting, taking pictures and more resting! )!!

Although we felt tired after the whole entire trip, it sure was an experience that the dancers would not forget! And of course what is a blog entry without pictures from the day's event! :)

WTO performance at NUS Law

Hello there again!

Since the exams are over and presumbaly we students have so much free time, we have been sentenced to perform! haha. which is not such a bad thing after all since we all missed dancing! :)

Thus, our first assignment for the holidays was the WTO Regional Trade Policy Course 2009 Opening Ceremony. Wow, that was a mouthful. Anyways, what better way to enjoy the performance by being there early and taking pictures just because we want to! I think it applies for all the Ilsa dancers, so all of us tend to enjoy this photo-taking sessions. :) Oh and that was after some of us got lost finding our way to the place!

Anyways, below are some picture snaps for all to enjoy! :)

yes, we look very busy and syimah is multi-tasking! very good. Saves time for everyone! Haha. We could only start with hair after our two saviours, Siti Kayos and Khalid went to buy hairsprays for us! How can we forget you must think? Well, we were quite excited to perform for such a long time and let's say it slipped our mind! Hah. :P

And when we are all ready to perform, what better way to while the time away then by taking pictures! Oh and this is our previous and current presidents. The reason why Ilsa practices are always kecoh and fun is because we have keh-ray-zeeeee people in charge! Oh the wonders of it all! :)

Comeback since the LAST update

Well then, the semester has been officially over since a week ago! :)

Everyone has been quite busy- making plans to chill with all their loved ones and all BUT we are all quite excited to dance again! :) Ilsa has a lot of events coming up and the most anticapated dance would be the mass dance with the rest of the 6 CFA dance groups for the opening for Asian Youth Games 2009! Our first practice was last Monday and it was all quite fun although we were the only dancers dancing with no shoes on!

After practice, all 9 of us went to eat dinner and celebrate our darling Siti Kayos and Khalid's 23rd Birthday!! :) With the most delicious and HUGE cake to celebrate the occasion, how can we not end dinner feeling full and bloated! Pictures are below of the fun and spills!

Yes, imagine Ilsa with contemporarised Zapin/Inang/Ronggeng backed by Techno and disc scratching coolness stuff! I see you raise one eyebrow there. Come on down and I bet you'll be wowed by this special breakthrough performance. Both eyebrows will be raised in amazement.

The string of fringe (i.e free) events looks promising as well. There's plenty of activities/ performances to entertain all walks of life!

Welcome Tea 2008

Welcome Tea 2008 was a success! Held last Wednesday at Practice Theatre located at Centre for the Arts (CFA), Ilsa Tari saw many potential dancers who came & had a mini experience of what it would be like (or rather how it IS) to be an Ilsa dancer.

A good effort by everyone who chipped in to do up the whole place especially the guys for the decorative side & girls for food & beverages! The EXCO would also like to extend our many many thanks to everyone who came to support (: Thank you guys for performing Zapin Zezaman & thank you seniors for your support (and donuts hehe). We also thank Jaycee for dropping by after her meeting!

We hope to see most of the attendees stay with us or at least support us in our major upcoming performances (READ: BUBBLES) and spread the word! We want YOU as part of our dance crew! Kalau tak, audience pun jadi lah.

Lobby of the guest house. Apparently, we're the first occupants to be staying over!

The guest house is very inaccessible; surrounded by lakes (where ppl go dating!), lots of trees and of course, countless lembus.

We were very much isolated.

Our room! Pretty decent huh? but omg the bedsheets...thank god for victoria's secret!

Our welcome dinner, such romantic ambiance..Pity we could only eat fish, soup and bread.

National costume on 2nd day! Since we have no idea what Singapore's national costume is, little miss Huiyan wore THE kebaya...complete with gorgeous heels.

At night, we travelled to a professor's house for a lecture on traditional Vietnamese musical instrument. Yes, his house, complete with projector screen. The man is 88 years old, mind you. We had lots of fun singing along, though we couldn't understand a single word..heh

Day 3 was the dance workshop day! They taught us the cup dance..and by the end of the day, we broke 3 cups altogether..not bad! We had a very good teacher!

Once again, in the afternoon we travelled to the city, this time to catch the water-puppet show. It is soooo cute! Imagine puppets going fishing and little puppet boys playing in the water kampong style, flipping up and down!

By the time we reach the guest house it was still early and because of the unstrategic location, we were stuck there. Fortunately, they came up with something fun to do! Bamboo dance!

On day 4 we finally get to go on the Mekong Delta tour. First up, boat ride y'all!

Cg is holding ice-cream! We craved for coke, fried chicken and ice-cream while we were there! oh...and maggi too! ( Just so you know, the moment we touched down in Sg, we went to eat McD's!!)

We went to the coconut candy factory located at one of the islands!

Not for the faint-hearted.

We also went on a sampan ride. Seriously, a sampan for 4, no engine. Imagine how many sampans they have to move all 90 of us...

After only 2 hours of sleep...we were off to the airport to bid farewell..hence the tired and can't be bothered faces.

This entry does not do justice to the whole Vietnam experience and to all the wonderful asean friends we made there, but at least you guys get to see a glimpse of what the 6 days was like for us. We took way too many pictures and if i were to go into detail of how we spent our days there, it would take me forever.

On the 4th of July 2008, we performed at the Ecofriends Awards Ceremony organized by the National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore.

It was held at the Jewel Box at Mount Faber (right at the cable car station) and we were invited to the dinner reception after the event :)

Guess what, we even received a trophy for our contributions! (unfortunately we forgot to take pictures of the trophy, which is currently with Irda if i'm not wrong... haha)

After a break from the exams, we came back and had a blast!

Our first performance was for the Asian Law Institute Conference at Fort Canning Park.

Beautiful place, new costume and awesome food!

virgin costumes! you have no idea how excited we were! complete with fake lashes and sticker eye-shadow...we had to give our precious "sanggul over" a miss because we thought we were over-dressed!

We are currently looking for dancers for our upcoming dance production on 27th December 2008at the NUS UCC Theatre.

Practices are on every Monday, 6-10 pm at the NUS University Cultural Centre Dance Studio, starting from the 26th of May 2008.

A dark comedy/mystery/psychological thriller with English Subtitles.

Pentas Budaya 2008: Kusumawangi - a Malay language theatre production which will both star and produced by the NUS students. The plot of this theatre production revolves around Malay’s interpretation of collective representation against logic (scientific knowledge) in the 1950s.
Kusumawangi will offer more than just a narration of the story. Infused in its production are elements of the Javanese and Malay culture interwoven into its storyline. Performances such as the Javanese dance and music play not only a significant role in the plot but also add colour and life to the production. This year, Pentas Budaya will follow a slightly different concept of a mudratari (literally music drama and dance) comparatively following last year’s success of Pentas Budaya 2007: Sulam, Selam, Silam, a competition-based arts performance.

Synopsis:
Newlywed couple, Herman and Wati, moved into a grand mansion inherited from his father. Located in the highest and most hidden part of the house is the room of Kusumawangi, an ancient Javanese dancer. When her door was found unlocked, the people living in the house soon find themselves living under an unseen threat. To help unravel the mystery behind the house, Herman seeks the help of his friend, Dr Faruk, who suspects foul play. What is the story behind this mansion? And what connects this mansion and the unspoken name and untold tale of Kusumawangi?

Despite the rain and all the mad rush, getting ready literally seconds before the show (which explains the lack of pictures) Arts Fest 08 was a blast! I have so many people to thank!! In no particular order of importance...

Hai semua! Thanks to those who came down for Iftar on Saturday. Sedih sekali...banyak buih last minute! Tapi takpee, it was nice to see our 'long-lost' members like Taufiq, Adilah and even Zahdan. Iftar was held at Komala's where we had free flow of kathira and pappadum. And it was a first for many Komala virgins like Taufiq, Zuraini, Indah and even Abg Man. Glad they liked it! After that it was off to Geylang for some, while to Boat Quay (as well as to Masjid Maulana) for the rest! =)

It has definitely been a long week, with Ilsa Tari performing different dance items for 2 time slots a day for all 4 days of the Matriculation Fair.

Day 1: Zapin Hip Hop
Day 2: Inang & Serampang
Day 3: Zapin Sungai Kallang
Day 4: Aksi-Aksi

Despite the long hours put into practices, I think we definitely came away with so much more for ourselves and Ilsa Tari. With that, I hope we have done enough and all that we could to reach out to others. It's a slow and difficult process, but I hope in time, we'll succeed.

After Matriculation Fair, it was then another Zapin Hip Hop performance at PBM Welcome Tea on Friday. I would just like to express a token of appreciation and thanks to the organizers for inviting us to perform.

And next is another much anticipated performance at Taman Jurong Community Centre on Saturday evening, where Ilsa Tari will be performing Zapin Sungai Kallang ....AND sharing the same stage with Taufik Batisah and Sylvester. All the best guys!

Ilsa Tari Gathering - Seoul Garden

Hi everyone! Hope all of you have been in the best of health. Lama kita tak jumpa, macam rindu gitu... =)

Anyway, Intan, Nadiah and I just came back from a CFA retreat a few days ago and it was rocking! Click here for pictures. The purpose of the retreat (it's not all play, though we did have fun!) was actually to get together representatives from all the groups under CFA's wing - like the music groups, dance groups, NU(Studios), Exonmobil Committee, etc. - and brainstorm for marketing strategies for our upcoming concert for Centennial Celebrates, how to get "bums on seats", interesting ideas to promote our concerts through media angles and so on.

And so it is confirmed, for Centennial Celebrates, we would be performing together with Dance Ensemble and Singa Nglaras Gamelan Ensemble, under both Abg Osman and Zaini. Attached is a short excerpt of the dance we would be performing, titled Macbeth-Unmasked. We would also be performing for Dance Reflections about a month later. Just take note of these important dates below for your reference.

Monday 30th May -> start of practice

25th - 28th July -> Matriculation Fair
Monday 1st August -> Ilsa Tari Welcome Tea
Sunday 28th August -> Macbeth-Unmasked
17th and 18th September -> Dance Reflections

As you can see, it'll be a pretty tight schedule in the coming months. Even to me, it looks pretty intimidating, but if we go through it step by step together, we'll get through all the way..and still have fun and bond at the same time, just like we did during Kontemplasi 2004. Ah, the memories...So that's it for now, any questions just get back to any of us k. See you all soon!

anyways, cume nak inform u guys that dance practice will officially resume on 30th of May. terlalu lama untuk anda? ade reason nye. we can't start on the 16th coz Abg Man, Yana n me are going to a cfa retreat. we're going to discuss about our huuuge performance for the cetennial celebration. we can't start on the 23rd due to it being a holiday. so no choice but start on the 30th lah.

tapi kalau ade great request, kita boleh meet up at as7 and try to learn that dance that we're so eager to learn before exams. remember? *wink*

Yey..Thanks a lot to Aaqil for designing this new layout.

As you all know, we've had a performance at Le Meridien last Sunday. All 8 performers, and our dear ex-president Sarinah were there with 2 other new bodyguards/cameramen, Firdaus and Fariz. Thank you to them, especially to Sarinah for coming down and helping us with the baju-baju, support and what not. I think all of us enjoyed ourselves thoroughly during the performance as well as the practices that led up to it. Just want to apologise on my part for not looking into the welfare matter. Kesian, semua lapar dan haus. Hopefully that won't happen again, and I'm sure all of us are looking forward to the next performance.

As Nadiah poignantly pointed out last Sunday, "If you can't acquire lameness, then you can't be in Ilsa." But of course, Ilsa's not all about lameness right. Kita gerek lagi ade...!

Anyways, like all dance performance should be, it was super kecoh.
Btw if u guys are wondering wat we danced, we did the inang, serampang and zapin.hehehe...

Hai everyone, for the benefit of everyone else who did not attend yesterday's practice and for those who may have forgotten, tomorrow's handover ceremony will be held at Cafe Samar at 2 pm. But we will be meeting up together first at Bugis Mrt Station at 1.30pm. Dress up in your best in accordance to the 'Arabian Nights' theme. ( tak boleh pun at least in bright Arabian colours kee..) ok the main highlight was... me and sar by luck manage to get seats amgst the VIPS !!! yesh VIPS !!! amg them are local artistes.. shah ibrahim.. nadiputra.. yada yada.. our MPS !! bez of all EVEN PUTRI GUNUNG LEDANG, TIARA JAC !!! gosh... for those 2 hrs.. me and sar feelin datin2..vips.. we actualli got a complimentary seats..hahaha.. jgn jeles ya..

All of you did a GRRRRREAT job with BOTH matinee and evening shows. *ROUND OF APPLAUSE* All's well ends well, and I'm so glad that I went through this whole process with all of you guys and gals.

Now for the 2nd announcement I'd like to make:
BBQ will be up at PA Chalet Number 3-3, will start at 6pm onwards,today Monday 27th. Please come by earlier if you'd like to help out. For now this is the list of people helping out:

but on a less light note, i'd really like to apologise, should sometime throughout this production i've been bitchy or too 'authoritative'...heheheh...it's just a thought that crossed my mind lah. sometimes these things happen without you(me) noticing it. jangan marah ye...

During this critical period, the tension gets intense and tempers are bound to flare among one another. I guess it's understandable,.... but we also have to realise our limits, be open to constructive criticisms, be sensitive to other people, be able to communicate our emotions and feelings, be sincerely apologetic when necessary and be forgiving in return. No one should feel hurt, small or belittled. I'm not sure if everyone else senses this, but I think we have a very special and strong bond together as a close-knit group. And it'll be sad if this critical period jeopardises our relationship in any way. But I believe we are stronger than that.

Because after all that has been said and done, I would like to be truly proud to belong as a member of Ilsa Tari.

Let's give it our all for Kontemplasi. We have worked so hard this far, so let's give it all that we've got.

but prb lies wth the 230pm show.. we have ard 60++ tickets yet to b sold.. cos some of us fail to sell their tics.. those i gave even return the same amt tics back... in addition to tat.. i gave 42 tics to ERa to sell but onli managed to sell 2... so due to tis poor sale... i gonna give 1 row to charity.. then as for those holding on to tics.. haishh....today's training a bit slack yah...didnt feel as shag'd (which was good, i'm sure you'll agree with me). yet was quite disappointed with the music during the recording ahh...mcm tak feel gitu cos it's not full strength...nevertheless, let's hope the coverage by SPS will be a stepping stone for us, so that in coming years, the response to Ilsa Tari will be better than it is now. It's good publicity, siape tau kot2 ade org come to front-of-house to buy the tix on the 26th itself :)
